A Weighty Issue

2008.10.25

Saturday was spent in the most unimaginable way possible... getting my wedding dress let out (for the SECOND time) due to "weight gain".

Nothing has changed about my body shape in the past four months, so it was interesting to hear the accusations of the seamstress doing my final fitting, which included:

"Have you been eating again?"
"Your body shape has changed"
"Don't gain any more weight before the wedding"
"Are you sure you're not pregnant?"

*fumes*

I have no problem with my body image, but to think that every bride who walks into their store is being fed such ridiculous lines is an outrage!! No wonder society has an issue with women's negative body images on its hands. Take charge, girls!

Leisa Ads by Google underneath this notes section read Weight Loss for Women. How I Finally Lost Weight. You have to giggle at the irony! Silly seamstresses! People should keep personal comments to themselves. *fumes with you*!

Muhlyssa "Have You Been Eating Again?" - you mean you aren't supposed to eat before your wedding?

mollylyn Oh my gosh! Was that lady serious! I hate those ladies...I was getting fitted for a bridesmaid dress awhile ago, and I had a leg injury...which resulted in me not excercising...well, anyway, she wanted me to pay like 100 extra dollars to order a "plus size" dress...okay, the sized are already out of wack on the dresses, and NO WAY was I ordering a plus size...I'm not even that big...and I was like "No, I'm going to lose weight, I was just cleared to exercise" and she looked at me and says "That's what everyone says"...well...I marched right back into that shop a few months later and guess what? THey had to take it in even more...I felt like saying "Take that!" haha...I wish they'd keep their opinions to themselves, and just let you enjoy your day!

KerBear I'm fuming with you and adding to what the second comment here says - the two google ads I'm getting are "10 Rules for Stomach Fat" which is apparently 10 "easy" rules to drop 9lbs in 11 days...and "10 Skinny Rules"... which appears to be the same thing! The our body image is influenced like this is mad. I ALWAYS get facebook ads about weighloss and it must be because I'm a female aged 20 - 25 or something! Insanity!!

How did you manage to go through your fitting?! Your poor thing! God forbid you eat! I mean, really, how dare you? :P
You're gorgeous, and comfortable with who you are - it's nice to see her stupidity incited rage rather than doubt :D

AuroraSky Unbelievable! Someone needs to get that woman a pizza or something... Who cares what the measurements are -- if the dress fits you correctly, you'll look beautiful no matter what :)
