The Mystery Plant Blooms

2008.11.06

When Matt and I moved into this unit nearly four and-a-half years ago, there was a small plastic purple pot containing a bulb and soil in our courtyard. For some reason (perhaps it was laziness), I never got rid of the pot and forgot about it over time....

Four years later, the plastic pot cracked and suddenly small tendrils of root shot out (over weeks, not seconds... don't get excited!), bringing the bulb from dormancy into life.

As it began to sprout, I tended it through the warm months and through the Winter - even repotting it into a new home. More and more leaves grew, with friends and family convinced it was a lily of some sort. What colour would its blooms be?

And now I know the answer, as the lily bloomed in the week while we were away in Hobart getting married. (I like to think it bloomed on our wedding day) :)

See a comparision shot from May 2008 here.

KerBear Look at you Mrs Green Thumb! :) I can't imagine I would be able to care for and bring a plant to bloom - my Dad has a knack for it, but not so much myself! haha Great work... and beautiful flower!
