I took this picture while being a passenger in the car for a couple of reasons. It marked Matt turning off from Oamaru towards Cromwell, and our uncertainty that the route would indeed take us to Queenstown...

But, as you can see, it ended up being the right way to go. This was our hotel room in Queenstown, a king-sized bed filling up much of the space (!!).

... Just check out those views of Lake Wakatipu from the window, truly gorgeous! :)

We ended up at a packed bar in downtown Queenstown that has an inventive way of letting in more light and air...by just opening the roof of course!

We make the seven hour trip from Christchurch to Queenstown, in New Zealand's South Island today. Sharing the driving makes for some interesting times, but allows us both to take in the gorgeous scenery and not gt too tired in the process.
Our travels take us through fields, mountains, highways and tunnels as we go further inland, until eventually we arrive into Queenstown, a gorgeous community set by the picturesque Lake Wakatipu. I was expecting a smaller town, yet Queenstown is a thriving tourist city amassing myriad of cultures from across the globe. Backpackers manning the local stores and games of volleyball happening across public gardens makes for a relaxed atmosphere which is a marked difference from everywhere else we've visited so far (truth be told, it takes me a couple of days to acclimatise to it all!).
But it is all definitely worth it, and the views of mountains and the wonderous lake are breathtaking!
Wow - the view from your room was incredible.... and the scenery is more than anything I could ever imagine! Gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing these! :)
