[NZ Day 9] Christchurch (end of Trip)

2009.01.06

The most epic breakfast of all time took place here this morning (sorry no food pictures, was too busy eating! ;P)

Gummy snails on top of my suitcase at Christchurch's airport. They were fairly tasteless but looked so cute!

Airline food - onion and tomato-topped chicken, salsa salad and banana cake (not bad actually!).

We checked out of the hotel (our hire car had to be back at the airport earlier than we wanted) and gave into my cravings for a hot breakfast... Matt was gleeful as I’m usually more the cereal-and-toast type. And oh my god, I proceeded to eat the Best Breakfast Ever (capitalised due to its sheer importance!). French toast on top of a pancake, bacon, maple syrup and cinnamon butter... I’m salivating just thinking about it! Sure, I only got halfway through before feeling full and thoroughly sick, but it was brilliant. :D

After successful getting the hire car back, it was a three-hour wait at the airport to board our flight back to Australia. We’d had such great, Summer weather that morning... but of course an hour before the flight it suddenly – and violently – changed. I knew we were in for an interesting time when the plane was swaying side to side (crosswinds) on the tarmac before taking off. Telling myself over and over to be calm, we lurched around in the air (sideways, back and forth) for about half an hour before finally clearing the offending air pockets.

Of course, nothing is ever straightforward in my life – after clearing immigration (my awesome E-passport makes for a quick clearance, whereas Matt got stuck in the big queue) and customs, we make our way to the carpark via the shuttle bus... to find my car as dead as a doornail and in need of calling RACV for roadside support *sigh*. Funnily enough, we make the best of the situation by opening the boot of my car (it’s a hatch) and sitting on the edge – feet dangling – eating lollies and cursing our luck. The RACV arrives within 90min and we (finally!) head home.

Home sweet home! :D

joycephotography Thank you for sharing your trip, I need to start saving so I can make it down under again. Airline food over here you have to pay for or get a bag of peanuts.
