The Edge™ – Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Rat Race® is an annual event for charity which began in 2000. Modelled after the Carey Wall Street Rat Race, the Kuala Lumpur Rat Race® is a platform for Corporate Malaysia to come together to help the needy in a novel way. The Race is the one day in the year that top executives and office workers forget about the rat race they run in daily, and join a rat race of a different kind. It also gives these workers a good excuse to leave the office early after a hard day’s work.

Over the past ten years, the Race has received tremendous support from local and foreign companies operating in Malaysia. Enthusiasm runs high as teams as well as CEOs, spurred on by cheerleaders, prepare to hit the streets of Kuala Lumpur for a good cause.

The Race covers 4.5km through the commercial heart of Kuala Lumpur, starting and finishing at the grounds of Bursa Malaysia. A 1km race for CEOs is also held simultaneously on that day.

Participants will run in their office attire and some may even carry other ‘executive’ paraphernalia such as mobile phones, PDAs, briefcases and laptops to vie for the ‘Best Dressed’ award. Some participants also come in costumes unique to their company or nature of business.

Awards are presented to the company that sends in the most number of teams, the top three teams, the top male and female runners and the top male and female CEOs.

In addition, three special awards will also be handed out: Best Cheerleading Squads (top 3), Most Senior Runner and Best Dressed CEO, which is a separate category from the Best Dressed award for runners of the main race.

A challenge trophy awaits the team that clocks in the fastest aggregate time.

For this year race, about RM 1.685 million donation have been collected from participated corporate companies and to be divided to 20 charitable organisations.
