Kuala Lumpur

Police fired tear gas and water cannons at some 5,000 opposition-led protesters trying to hand over a memorandum on Selangor water issues to the King in Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 05/12/2010

The protesters, wearing red and black shirts, gathered at the National Mosque from 12 noon started their march the the palace at about 2 pm but has been blocked by Federal Reserve Unit Personnel near the Railway Station.

The police start fired the tear gas and water cannons when the protesters insisted to get through.

Police had fired at least 20 tear gas rounds at the crowd and the stand-off between the two sides remained as police used the loud hailer to ask the crowd to disperse.

About 48 protester has been detained by the police for investigation and released at 7.30pm under the police bail.
