Mount DamÄvand (Persian: دÙاÙÙد ) also known as Donbavand, is a dormant volcano in Iran. Located in the middle Alborz Range, adjacent to VarÄrÅ«, Sesang, Gol-e Zard and MÄ«ÄnrÅ«d, it is the highest point in both Iran and the wider Middle East. It is also the highest volcano in all of Asia. Though not volcanically active, there are fumaroles near the summit crater that deposit sulfur, which were most recently known to be active on July 6, 2007. The mountain is located near the southern coast of the Caspian Sea, in Ämol county, MÄzandarÄn, 66 km (41 miles) northeast of Tehran.
Damavand is, as any cursory reading of Persian literature will indicate, the Mount Olympus of Persian mythology. The best major settlement for mount climbers is new Iranian Mountain Federation Camp in village Polour, located at the south of the mountain

کوه دَماوَند کوهی در شمال ایران است که به عنوان بلندترین کوه ایران و بلندترین آتشفشان خاورمیانه شناخته میشود. این کوه در قسمت مرکزی رشتهکوه البرز در جنوب دریای خزر و در بخش لاریجان شهرستان آمل قرار دارد. این قله که از نظر تقسیمات کشوری در استان مازندران قرار دارد در هوایی صاف و آفتابی از شهرهای تهران، ورامین و قم و همچنین کرانههای دریای خزر قابل رؤیت است. نزدیکترین شهر بزرگ به این کوه لاریجان است.
دماوند در اساطیر ایران هم مطرح است و شهرتش بیش از هرچیز به خاطر این است که ضحاک (پادشاهی ستمگر و اژدهافش) در آن به بند کشیده شدهاست. در آثار ادبی فارسی نیز فراوان به این اسطوره و به طور کلیتر کوه دماوند اشاره شدهاست. دماوند دارای چشمههای آب گرم لاریجان، اسک و وانه است.
ارتفاع ۵٬۶۱۰ تا ۵٬۶۷۱ متر/مکان حدود ۵۰ تا ۸۰ کیلومتری شمال شرقی تهران/رشتهکوه البرز /ارتفاع نسبی ۴٬۶۶۱ متر/مختصات 35°43′04″N, 52°03′54″E/گونه آتشفشانی مطبق /آخرین فوران سابقهٔ تاریخیای وجود ندارد.
