How to prepare a landscape and get a social shoot?

I was pointing my lens to this empty alley, trying to catch the beautiful sunset of this winter afternoon and when I pressed, this familly was just crossing the way. I really like when photo is so funny and easy. Because I am too timid to shoot people directly, I was back in home with a large smile, like a wildlife photographer with an incredible and rare nature shoot. :)
