Posting via XP Publishing Wizard

So I have been laying low for the past few weeks. Some might call it a vacation, I call it a disaster. One of my development laptops decided to die on me. On the bright side that made me want to develop something new and great for Photoblog. So I pondered what this service needed and then it hit me on the subway one morning. We need a easy way for Windows XP/Vista users to upload their photos. Windows has this publishing wizard we can easily use, so read on to get all the details on how to get it working.

So the first thing you want to do is download and run the registry file. This will tell Windows to put an entry for Photoblog in the services list to upload to. So first you want to download the following file from the link below

http://www.photoblog.com/regfile/

Save that file, by default it is called photoblog.reg, to your desktop and then you want to double click it. It will prompt you if you want to enter these values into your system registry, so just click yes.

Ok great now you are ready to get started. I have compiled some images that can walk you through the process. It is pretty simple though.

So first you want to get into the directory that holds the images you want to upload. You can see below where the link is to the publish wizard.

xp01.jpg

Ok so you want to click that link and you will now see this page

xp02.jpg

Ok so click on the next button and you will then see this. This is the page you can select the images you want to upload to Photoblog. So you can check and uncheck images you want to upload.

xp03.jpg

Click on next when you have selected the image(s) you want to upload and you will see the following page.

xp04.jpg

Select the Photoblog option and click on next. Once you do you will see the login page. Fill it in with the username and password you use for Photoblog.

xp05.jpg

Click on the next button and if your login was valid you will see the following page.

xp06.jpg

This looks just like the normal create page you are used to seeing. Just fill it out like you normally would and click the next button. Once you do you will see the following page where you can resize the image(s) you want to upload

xp07.jpg

Select if you want to resize them. Its OK if you do not want to resize them. Resizing them will just make for a faster upload process. So once you have selected what you want to do click on the next button and you will see the following page.

xp08.jpg

This page is just basically the status page of your uploading images. Once it is done you will see the final window

xp09.jpg

Well that's it. Easy huh? You are given the link to the URL of your new entry on Photoblog.

Good luck and have fun blogging!

Sorry to hear about your laptop. I would cry if that were to happen to me.

Happy to see that you guys are trying new things out with the website, but I still think you're missing the mark in terms of keeping members here and participating.

As that you are back it would be great if you can work on some more options to increase member integration.

But I hope that you would know that already.

this almost makes me wish that i didn't dump my pc for a mac...sigh.

any word on something like this for osx, or would that reguire writing a plugin for iphoto or aperture? or even a standalone client? because those things could get messy.

I have to tell you my dear Mike: This website is by far ahead of everything else available on the same genre on internet. I am very pleased being able to utilize your ideas (cheers to Michael as well). Thanks for your efforts.
How is Lola going by the way?! lololol!!!Have a good one!

This is a terrific feature. I never use the MS Publishing tool, but I will be trying this out on my next post. Thank you!

Tag Lines. When I first joined, I figured a tag line would be text that showed up just under a picture it was associated with. That would be useful. So what do your tag lines do?

This looks like a great tool, but I can't get it to work on my PC. I installed the registry file and everything is ok up to the login window, but even though I double, triple, quadruple-checked that my username and password was correct, I get the message 'Invalid username/password combination'. What's wrong?

Thank you, that would be great.

By the way, is it possible to put a hit counter on someone's photoblog?

Mike i tried the publishing tool but it keeps rejecting my username/password, I come to the site here and it logs me right in.

Sorry About the Laptop... Considering that I just got my first one. BTW Even i did not use the publish to web feature. I will try for next post but guess I will have to come on to the site to post the text part.

Anonymous,

Tags help you organize photos based on descriptive keywords... We're looking into giving you the freedom of adding additional information or captions to photos.

Hi,

This new feature is extremely helpful. It would be nice if it logged you into the site before opening the page at the end to preview.

Thanks for your consideration.
