I got out of my hotel again on Sunday, and took my camera. I needed toothpaste, and wanted to try to find my way around a little more.
This is the sidewalk on Mahatma Ghandi Road, maybe two kilometers from my hotel. This is a famous shopping district. I saw lots of clothing stores, fabric stores, furniture, some jewelry. I didn't stop to look at any of it for long, because I was trying to avoid the high-pressure sales pitch. Smile, make the "no" sign, say thank you, keep moving.
The "no" sign is to shake your hand side to side, like when North Americans mean "so-so." I learned about it from reading
www.indiamike.com, but I haven't seen anyone else do it since I got here. I need to ask the people I'm training.
I never did find toothpaste, but I didn't get too lost, either.
I still can't get to the internet from my hotel. It looks like I'm going to prepare these blog updates in my room, and post them at the end of my work day.
