I'm pretty conspicuous on the street. I'm taller than 99% of Indians, at a guess, and, well, pale. Most people don't look surprised to see me, but they often study me as I go by. When I notice it, I just give them a smile. It's generally returned.
Carrying a camera brings a lot more attention. People study the camera in a pretty obvious way, even if it's just hanging around my neck.
I was standing on the street, trying to get a picture of the temple on the other side, and generally having one of those frustrating technology moments. The two boys here were on their way by, watching me, and when I seemed friendly enough, they asked me to take their picture. Mind you, I didn't understand a word they said, but we worked it out. Their parting words were, "Bye Uncle."
I turned around, and the two guys on the bus were waving and signaling to take their picture.
Work and my luxury confines have been making me cranky this week. I think I need to get back out on the street.
