Sitta carolinensis

Hi

Just a little guy. This is his wonky wing.

On Canada Day, (July 1st) we took the dogs for a walk near the cottage and came upon a fledgling White Breasted Nuthatch in trouble. He had obviously taken a tumble and was tangled in some gooey pine gum and hair. He has a few broken and missing flight feathers and is missing a toenail. I brought him home and cleaned him up and fed him. Now I'm his mommy and he sits on my shoulder and demands food. We're going to bring him to a wildlife rescue center and see what's best for him, but he might become a new pet if he can't be re-released.

On a sad note, the Phoebe's in the previous entry didn't make it. The parents apparently abandoned the nest, which I gather is not uncommon with Phoebe's.
