Haceta Head Lighthouse, Day 38

View of the ocean looking south as we climbed a 1/2 mile long path to the lighthouse. It felt a lot further than 1/2 mile :)

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, the lighthouse is in sight.

Looking back from the front yard of the lighthouse. We parked the car way back, down there by the white sandy beach near the foot of the bridge.

Looking up into the English made First Order Fresnel lamp. The light can be seen 21 miles at sea.

The mechanism that has been turning the light for almost 120 years. It is cast iron with brass wheels and gears. It does squeak and squak a bit.

The housing where the old brass clockworks used to be. Prior to automating the light, the lighthouse keepers had to crank a 200 pound weight back up every four hours to power the clock. Now, the little electric motor seen inside this housing does all the work.

Tara talking to Scott...our guide through the lighthouse. This lighthouse has just received a grant of 1.3 million dollars for a complete restoration back to its original condition. As part of the work, the windows will all be restored.

We drove 32 miles today from Umpqua Lighthouse State Park to Haceta Beach RV Park near Florence, Oregon.
Total trip mileage is now 3120.
We took the car this afternoon and drove 13 miles north of Florence to visit the Haceta Head Lighthouse. Another spectacular view!
This lighthouse was built in 1894 and has an English First Order Fresnel Lamp. We did a lot of climbing to get up to this lighthouse. The parking lot is at sea level just overlooking a wide sandy beach.

Hi Tara and Bill, great detailed shots of the light house. It seems like an eternity since I had seen you at Hugh's and Linda's house in Rimrock.

Never ceases to amaze me the light you can get from 2 little bulbs......and a BIG Fresnel lense..a lovely lighthouse just a shame the windows had to be filled in.The last shot across the bay is stunning, though not a day for skinny dipping.... ( I did some research on your Tsunami tower of yesterday and how it works, apparantly if you can't see the tower above the wave..........:-) sorry !!!! Take care.....
