Bill and Tara, Chicago, Day 14, 30 Sep 2011

Up and at 'em Friday morning...hmmmm, the view from our hotel looks the same as it did yesterday when we arrived:)
pixel
Two blocks from our hotel we find ourselves walking into Millenium Park.
pixel
Approaching the famous Cloud Gate...or The Bean, as most folks call it. It is 168 steel plates welded together and shaped as you see here. It is so highly polished that no seams show anywhere. It is a photographers dream.
pixel
Closer:)
pixel
Really something underneath. Everybody mugs for the camera.
pixel
Mirrored surface and compound curves produce all sorts of funny reflections.
pixel
It is a favorite place for wedding photos...
pixel
The park is full of beautiful plantings...until winter sets its icy fangs into the city.
pixel
Plenty of hustle bustle everywhere but not all that bad compared to New York City.
pixel
Architectural detail everywhere...
pixel
There's a subway system and an elevated train system, plus buses and cabs to move everybody where they want to go.
pixel
These datails on the Grain Communications Building caught my eye. This building is on the site of Fort Dearborn that was meant to protect early settlers...but that didn't fair well against British/Indian attacks in 1812.

Inside the Grain Communications Building built in 1922.
pixel
Trump Towers on the Chicago River.
pixel
A memorial to the defenders of Fort Dearborn.
pixel
Waterborne sightseers on the Chicago River.
pixel
The Chicago Times Building...what detail.
pixel
At 5:30pm the light grew dark and rain came down in buckets. We found an awning until it let up and headed back for our 14th floor room to snack and talk and talk and talk...:)

Friday, 30 September, 2011.

This was our first full day in Chicago. We found a great place for breakfast, met up with a couple of Renderosity photographer/writer friends (Chip and Corey) and set off for a walking tour. Photos above are just a tiny sample of what we saw.

We'll be doing more of the same on Saturday and Sunday.
