Out of Colorado, Into Utah, Oct 18th, 2011

We departed New Castle, Colorado and drove west through the towns of Rifle and Silt before getting back on I-70 once again.

Back on the Interstate heading west.

Mountains getting smaller all the time...but still in Colorado.

Had to throw this picture in...mowing dormant grass? Is this really necessary:)

Most of our drive in Utah seemed to be through this type of landform. Fascinating but different from Colorado. This is high desert country.

Talk about wide open spaces...

And more buttes of every size and shape.

And here we go dropping down again through a canyon cut by another river...and the state highway department:)

Coming out of the canyon we meet a windfarm...always a welcome sign.

Not long after the windfarm we catch our first glimpse of a hazy Lake Utah and the outskirts of the city of Provo. This will be our overnight location...in a very nicely appointed Hampton Inn.

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011.
Distance to drive today is 311 miles.
We knew we'd be leaving the Rockies today and didn't know what to expect terrain-wise in Utah. We thought the terrain would become boringly flat. Much to our surprise, we found the entire route to be very scenic transitioning from mountains in Colorado to high desert in Utah.
Tomorrow we plan to explore the Provo-Salt Lake area.
