My parents celebrated 40 years together this May! We had a great 60's themed party with Donovan and Hendrix and Beatles music drifting out over the guests in the yard, tons of amazing food, and even a place where you could make your own Love Beads. Lots of old family friends and relatives. Some even came in from Boston and Philly. My dad can still fit into his bell-bottoms from his college days - amazing! We apparently appeased the rain gods and heard all other areas of Pittsburgh had intermittent showers all day. We had nothing but sunshine!

10 years seems like a lifetime to young people like us. We've dated for as long as we were legal to drive. To celebrate this incredible achievement, we decided to drive up the coast to the new up and coming wine country -- Paso Robles, CA. We now understand why people say it's like the next Napa Valley. We visited Donati, Turley, Castoro and Eberle wineries. It is absolutely beautiful there. The air is crisp and clean and the skies range from deep blue to an almost baby blue color. Although the grapes aren't in harvest, the leaves were a vibrant green. We didn't actually stay in Paso Robles; we stayed in Morro Bay, which is about 30 to 40 minutes away from Paso Robles. It was definitely a great idea to stay there because we discovered some great seafood restaurants that were surprisingly affordable and there were so many photo opps as you will see from the pictures. Driving back home, we went through Pismo Beach, Grover Beach and Lake Cachuma and got some great pictures of the lake, plants, mountains and activities people were doing. We would definitely go back to Paso Robles for the wine and Morro Bay for the seafood. When we go to Morro Bay the next time, we are definitely going fishing...

Today is our 31st wedding anniversary, and my husband surprised me at work today, with these beautiful flowers. I never take pictures of flowers, and my last 3 posts have been nothing but that (sorry), but these were so pretty, and smell SO good, I just had to show them off.

One day, God willing, I may grow old, as old as this tree lining Jalan Kebon Sireh in Central Jakarta (near Penang Bistro, my favourite Malaysian resto). Though very very old... I have this two sincere wishes -- I want to be able to keep serving and be of benefit in some way or another to my family esp, my 4 children, my wife and my country. & eventhough this old... I will keep the flame of love burning in my heart & mind for you D.D & our wonderful children. These wishes I made on this august day of our 20th anniversary of blissful and God-blessed togetherness.

Who's anniversary is it? I have no clue...except for the fact that their names are John and Janie. As a birthday present, my friend took me to dinner at King's Hawaiian. We managed to order enough food for 2 or 3 meals...but it was great to try an assortment of entrees. You can check out the spread over on her photoblog. Yum! Prior to the meal, she had ordered a cake to go...and we picked it up just before we left. But, when we got home...it wasn't exactly the cake that she ordered. Instead of a pineapple tres leches cake...she ended up with one made of chocolate and chocolate pudding. The worse part is that we ended up with John and Janie's anniversary cake. I hope they were able to get a replacement for their happy day. But, if you're out there John and Janie...I have to say...your cake tasted pretty good! =P

I hadn't been to Temple Emanu-El for many, many years. The last time I can recall being there was at my Grandmother Sonia's funeral in 1994. It was nice to see people I've known since I was a small child, and I was very pleased to meet the current Rabbi, Debra Landsberg. She led a service which included having my parents stand under the chuppah, as they did when they were married, bringing their wedding into the present. Rabbi Arthur Bielfeld, Emanu-el's rabbi for 33 years, was present to celebrate and be celebrated. He was and continues to be a committed social justice activist. Among many causes, he has fought for the rights of migrant workers, of refugees from Vietnam, for Gay and Lesbian rights (including the right to be recognised as families in the congregation), for refuseniks in the former Soviet Union, and to end child poverty here in Canada. During the service, my father read a poem for my mother: The Life That I Have The life that I have Is all that I have And the life that I have Is yours The love that I have Of the life that I have Is yours and yours and yours. This is Mutombo, the baby giraffe at the Living Desert. Well, he's not so much a baby anymore. He's just over a year now. I posted photos of him on my blog last year when he was just 2 months old. I thought that photos of him would be a good way to celebrate my 1 Year Anniversary on photoblog. He's a year older, I'm a year older. He's grown. The question is...have I grown as a photographer? I remember being so nervous when I joined. Would anyone like my photos? Would they be ripped apart? Would they touch anyone? I've learned since then that photoblog is a nurturing place and I had nothing to be worried about. But it's also taught me that not everyone is going to like what I put up everyday. People have different tastes and though it can be disappointing that someone doesn't like it, it's just the way art is. I have to say...I have a muse who I think has helped me grow. No, not Spike. :P This person has challenged me, made me frustrated, made me cry, pushed me, and given me great feedback. Kind of like a teacher/mentor who inspires you to work harder. If you read this, thank you. :) And of course, thank you to all photobloggers for all your comments and for a fun and inspiring year!
