This is a collaboration between HPB and Hans Arts.

This event is held on 5-6 July 2008 at Bukit Batok East Point (between Blk 273 and 279 of Bukit Batok East Ave 4)

WHAT IT IS...

HIV is spread through contact with infected blood, usually through receiving unscreened blood transfusion. In Singapore, all blood donated for transfusion is screened carefully. You won't get HIV through donating or receiving blood in Singapore.

It's possible to prevent yourself from getting HIV through correct and consistent use of condoms. Condoms, if used properly, can be effective in protecting you from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Insist on using condoms, especially with a person whose HIV status is unknown to you.

Early detection of HIV enables one to receive prompt medical care and treatment. Although there is still no cure for HIV, it's really not a dead end. There is treatment available which helps to keep one healthy and happy.

WHAT IT IS NOT...

Saliva, sweat and tears do not spread HIV. You can help wipe them off, without any fear.

HIV is not spread through the sharing of food, drinks or clothing. It's okay to sit down and have a meal with someone who is living with HIV; you won't get infected that way.

HIV is not spread through using the same toilet seat, shower room or swimming pool. No one has ever caught HIV through contact with an environmental surface, like a toilet seat, a shower room or a swimming pool.

HIV is not spread by mosquitoes or other biting insects. Imagine if HIV could be spread through insect bites... wouldn;t there be a lot more people getting HIV?

Happened to be the day of the Red Wings parade. We left home at 10 am, returned at 1 am the next morning. We had ourselves a little staycation right here in our hometown. The morning started watching the parade from a loft on Woodward. Then on to Asian Village for sushi. A stroll down the Riverwalk. From there it was Greektown and a stop at Astoria for a slushy drink. Hopped in the car and hit the 22nd Annual Detroit Festival of Arts. Sat in the shade listening to live music and people watching. We were hungry again, so Cass Cafe was the place to satisfy that need. A bit more talking and laughing was had at a trendy loft downtown. It was a great exploration and day of relaxation. Cannot wait for the next time!

Powered by Photoblog.com

The room wasn't designed with the idea in mind that a photographer would want to run around the edges and catch all kinds of angles -- there was no extra space and all spectators had to sit against the wall. I have more from this shoot, including some kids going for their black belts, but I needed to get these ones finished for Paul first, so they're what I'm posting.

Powered by Photoblog.com

Concrete (books bound in concrete)

János Hübler and Nemere Kerezsi, two Ph. D. students at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts (supervisor: György Jovánovics), have created this installation using two cubic meters of concrete and eighteen cubic meters of discarded books. Originally part of a large collection donated to the Central European University by Radio Free Europe’s research institute, the books, most of which had lost all relevance in the meantime, were offered to the public gratis. The eighteen cubic meters of books used for the installation are actually the leftovers, unwanted by the public. The two artists executed the project with the help of Márta Rácz. The books were built into a concrete foundation regardless of their content. Arranged with their spines pointing downwards, they constitute interesting shapes of various heights, due to their different sizes. The resulting structure set in concrete will not have a final shape as a floor surface, because, by walking on it, the visitors will continuously erode it. The installation constitutes at the same time a monument to eternal knowledge ”set in concrete” and to degenerating information, to the immortality of the past and its disintegration, while also offering an opportunity to reflect on the essence of books. During the exhibition period (June 4 – 7), the public is welcome to visit our further events. Anyone interested in poetry will be able to enjoy two Poetry Nights, when contemporary Hungarian poets will be presented, either in person or through the lens of the photographer Lenke Szilágyi. The other events include a book presentation, a public discussion and readings from a number of recently published books, in both Hungarian and English.
