insects in the World.
If a boy says to his girl that she seems like
a butterfly ...she will feel very good and likely
she will give him a passionate kiss.

Usually the girls have fair of the caterpillars...they are so ugly!!

Caterpillar is the larvae of insects and it goes through to become a butterfly:
the ugly will become beautiful!

But is the ugly really ugly?
I try to demostrate that the caterpillar is not too ugly.

Powered by Photoblog.com

The Process of Beautiful Yellow Flowers... by 777STAN

Recently, I have been plunging deeply into the realm of digital sharpness...because my jpegs have been consistently less sharp than I care for them to be.

(Now, I hope I do not appear overly negative with my approaches to correcting problems, but at least to me it seems quite pleasant to "rule out" all the "worst-case scenarios" in order to be assured that whatever the result, it will, of course, be better than the worst!)

First of all, I have been concerned about my "middle-aged eyes", and I plan to have them checked very soon...because I am long over-due. (Auto-focus lenses have kept me in business for a much longer time than I could ever have achieved with the old manual lenses.)

Secondly (and the emphasis today,) what can I do after taking a photo to enhance whatever sharpness exists in the photo itself?

     I have long been a fan of using Photo Shop Elements! It's basic! It's easy to use! It's easy to teach! It's relatively inexpensive to buy. (I purchased PSE 6.0 for $99.00, US, after giving it a "test-drive" for 30 days for FREE.)

     Before doing anything to a photo myself, I usually just snap the picture and pass it along to "more precise 'hands'." 1. Camera auto-focuses the photo. (I just frame and press the button.) 2. Transfer to computer. 3. Computer processes auto-levels, auto-contrast, auto-color-correction, and auto-sharpening. (Batch-Editing...)

     If I like the result, then I don't do anything else. I just post them on Photo Blog for your enjoyment.

     On the other hand, if I think I can improve them somewhat, I "work-them-over" a little more like I did today...by "marrying together" the RAW & jpeg forms of one photo while adjusting the opacity levels of one or the other.

     Some of these photos are the combinations of about seven or eight layers in which I used Black & White conversions to infrared, portrait, newsprint, landscape or snapshot versions which all seem to tweak the light & dark levels to varying degrees, and then I blend the Black & White onto the background using Overlay, Pin Light, Soft Light, Multiply, Screen, or Luminosity, etc. blending that may stay at 100% opacity or some percentage level down to about 25% usually.

Finally, as I said yesterday, I copy jpegs often along the way in order to have a record of what I did (at least once) so that if in traveling through the maze of my mind & PSE 6.0 I can't find my way back to what I did before, I will at least know what it looked like...LOL!  :}

   Thank You to those who have continued to read this far...because I readily confess that my explanations are often tiresomely wordy. However, I intentionally do not create "sound bites" when I have something important to say.

(It may not be fully understood the first time through, but it could prove to be a great reference guide as the individual photographer grows in expertise.)

     Beside, I hope that it will be encouraging to know that to whatever level you value my photos...my skills have almost completely been learned through "the school of hard knocks" (i.e. "Good Ol' HKU!") I haven't completed any formal training in photography, and only have a one-day seminar "under-my-belt" in Photo Shop editing.

     Experimentation is an excellent tool for photographers and digital editors!

     With me ERROR is not a cause for depression...ERROR is my teacher!  It sort of reminds me of my favorite piece of garden art carved into faux stone, "We garden by trowel and error!"  :}

Powered by Photoblog.com

Similar is the process of writing a novel or creating a movie. Rare is the author who knows everything about his or her work when they begin. Usually they think, "Okay, Hero where will we go today!"

How many times have you seen your favorite fullback take the ball and twist, turn, even hurdle opposing players in pursuit of the goal line? :) Enjoy! :)

Powered by Photoblog.com

Since then an eventful history which focussed on the Teutonic Order and the Thirty Years´ War followed. First cultivation of rare plants by the Hungarian Prince Nikolaus Esterházy, followed by the Grand Duke Friedrich I, also a lover of plants. Then various owners from different royal and ducal dynasties. In 1931, Count Lennart Bernadotte was given the somewhat overgrown 45-hectare island in Lake Constance by his father and he set about transforming it into a paradise of flowers and plants. Today, it is one of the major attractions of Lake Constance, steeped in aristocratic tradition and with a magical atmosphere that attracts millions of nature lovers and garden enthusiasts every year. Colours, scents and a thousand splendours… palm trees, oranges and other exotic treasures flourish here. The exotic colours of the flowerbeds bring the park to life between March and October.

Powered by Photoblog.com

Edinburgh– officially my favorite city right now. by americaninlondon

When I stepped off the train station I was immediately overwhelmed by the architecture of the city. Walking on the cobblestones uphill and downhill did give me the sorest feet I've had in ages, but it was all worth it to explore a city that has preserved its history so well. Lots of tourists? Yes, but there are a plethora of alleyways and stairways winding through the city that can keep you away from the crowds along the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle– quite possibly the most expensive tourist attraction I've been to so far, but a must see nonetheless.

Also, the bar scene here is fantastic! Coming from New Orleans, the definition of hardcore drinker has now changed for me. The people of Edinburgh can compete any day with the locals of New Orleans.

Cheers,
