I found a slightly elevated vantage point on a grass bank which enabled me a clear view over the masses who were crammed ten-deep or more along the water's edge.

It's a shame the wind was blowing the smoke our way but the way it caught the lights from the fairground was certainly worth a photo.

342. Fireworks in the Wind by Jarvo

Lessons:

1. Get there early. Both to get a better view, and to avoid missing half the display setting up.
2. When watching fireworks in windy conditions the wind isn't really apparent because we compensate for the movement. The camera doesn't though. Sometimes it gives a pleasing effect, but more often it spoils an otherwise good shot.
3. Try using a longer lens and zooming in more rather than keep going for the same panorama. More variety of shots would be more interesting.
4. I'm sure Mr Freud would make something of the fact that I keep typing fireforks instead of fireworks.

Powered by Photoblog.com

Hey! It's 09-09-09! I don't think that mean's very much, but as someone interested in the quarks and oddities of life, I'll take it. Moving on... I was instantly inspired by Stéfan and Peter's recent posts', so I went to my archive and found these two shots from the the same day I shot this scene. Yeah, they're kinda blurry; I've got a lot to learn about night photography/fireworks photography. Cheers.
