Patience, Diligence, Persistence (part 2) by yeargin

To see the first part of this entry, click here . My last fall and spring semesters of graduate school are in the books. I walk at commencement in eight days and I'll actually finish classes this summer. The last 3 years have been difficult for me in many ways, but I feel that an abundance of learning has taken place. What amazes me the most is the breadth of blessings I've been given. I've done my best to be patient, diligent, and persistent. I will gladly admit that I've failed more than a few times to be one (or all) of those adjectives. Today, my devotional was based on Galations 6:8-9. "Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Not only in the last three years, but also in this semester, my life has begun to come together in amazing ways. With two classes left, if I simply pass, my GPA will still be just fine. Professionally, I feel like I've made great developmental strides easily attributable to the wealth of knowledgeable and experienced mentors who surround me. Even in my personal life, I've seen changes in my attitude towards other people. Simply put, I feel at peace. By "at peace," I do not mean that the path is easy, that I don't get stressed out, that everything goes my way, or anything like that. Often, it feels like even more challenges arise. Fortunately I can rest in knowing that just like the Israelites in Egypt- Exodus 14:14 - The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. and Jeremiah in Babylon- Jeremiah 29:11-14 - For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.” God will provide. After a few years of persistently watching sunsets, patiently waiting for the right shot, and diligently trying to capture it, I feel like I've finally started to understand the progression. The pictures above are in order, but they wouldn't be hard to chronologically arrange if I challenged you to do so. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed sitting on the edge of the river capturing them.

After some atrocious weather through most of today the sun finally peeped through the clouds this afternoon while I was in Bognor Regis. I decided to go for a brief stroll along the beach, although this turned out to be a rather more tiring pursuit than I’d expected. What had felt like a stiff breeze in the town centre turned out to be a very strong gusty wind on the seafront and it was whipping up the waves dramatically. Having photographed the pier, silhouetted against the soft colours in the sky I moved further along the beach where I found a flock of starlings bickering together as they foraged for food. I was contemplating how to catch a photo of them when one solitary bird hopped up onto the sea wall in search of crumbs. Just at the moment the sun burst through the clouds, bringing out the beautiful pearlescence in its feathers and I had my photo!

Within 10 minutes a cold front moving in from the North brought dark clouds to the sky. And the temperature dropped 8 degrees.

As of today I’ve been posting at least one photo to my blog here every day for four years. You’ve heard of people doing a photo365 project – mine has been a photo1461 project! I originally intended to post daily for a year to develop my photography skills but after that first year I decided I’d miss the routine if I stopped so here I am after four years, still in the daily habit. I’m not planning to stop just yet but I thought the moment was worth marking after so many consecutive posts. I spent today enjoying a lovely day out with my Mum, starting off with a little retail therapy and lunch in Southampton. As we headed back towards home we decided to go to Littlehampton for a walk beside the River Arun and a spot of afternoon tea. By the time we’d had our cuppa the sun was dropping towards the horizon sky and there were moments when it peeped between the clouds to provide some beautiful illumination over the town’s pier.
