Clown Show

2008.07.17

The disconcerting topics of discussion mid-surgery.

What was just a normal night at the cafe turns into an unprovoked ninja attack.

(Vicious slapstick... is there any other type?)

A response to heckling from the audience.

and the punchline is....

An audience member worries about his girlfriend taking him to a cannibal cooking show.

Fighting crime can be hard when you're still underage.

The national big wigs discuss the Declaration of Independence.

A seemingly sweet girl...

... and her mocking cat.

A gathering of campus special interest groups including the science department, drama group, ecumenical worship, sports teams and... uummm... the local ant colony?

A blinged up version of God asking his son why he doesn't call anymore...

The relationship fairy points out a few of the "harder to work around" moments during the courting period.

Discovering the person you were matched to on a dating website is someone's sibling.

Choking mid-meal and being saved by your boyfriend only to tell him seconds later that you are dumping him. (Great exit guys).

Finding out the person you have so much in common with is a psychopath.

A gathering of ninjas explain their attack strategy.

The hosts hand out papers to the audience of all the different things that annoy and get people down (War. Death. International taxes and surcharges. Skinny jeans. Small dogs etc.), and inviting them to undergo some communal cleansing with a group paper rip.

A beautiful way to end the night.

It was once said that clowning is not an exaggeration of reality, but rather a magnification of it. The Clown Show managed to connect with its audience in a weird, awkward but somehow endearingly friendly way.

With little vignetted scenes referring to "The Sadness", (a force in the universe that can only be overcome by the humour of clowns and innocence of children), there was enough variety in the humour to hit everyone's funny bone to leave everyone feeling a bit lighter, happier and sillier after.
