I was going on a school excursion to the BHP Steel Mill in 1967 and we were told we should bring a camera if possible.

My parents let me buy (or should I say, bought for me) a small 30mm B&W instamatic, and of course I had to try it out first. Well this is the first shot I took.

I spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out if I should line up the while poles in the vertical, or the roof line in the horizontal. In the end I settled for the white poles. (I had the critical eye of my fellow Photobloggers in mind even then!)

Its easy to see today that I just needed to move 5 meters to the right and I would have had both !

But then I was only 8. I excuse myself.

Gosh you remind me of myself with this story. And I still have my first picture somewhere, but it's in a box stuck up in the roof somewhere I'll never find it!!! Cherax · 2007-07-10: 07:37
