We were supposed to be riding bikes across the Golden Gate Bridge. But fog, drizzle, and wind interceded. Instead, we wound up at Fort Hood, the fort that protected the Golden Gate Bay from enemy intruders, first for the Spanish and then the Americans. There was a Civil War re-enactment that day, that livened the place up: bands, women in hoop skirts and doctors kits. It was a most fascinating place and a wonderful spot for all kinds of photos.

Above: view of the bridge, from the fort below. what an incredible vantage point
Below: A view of all the arches, within which cannons were placed and directed at the waters below

A view inside the fort, across the arched bays, with one of the cannons still there, to provide some scale and interest

A wondrously complicated shot, crammed busy with architectural features shot from one of those arched bays: an arch of the Golden Gate Bridge specifically designed to allow preservation of the fort, spiral stairs leading to the lighthouse on top of the fort, soldiers' quarters, jail, mess, all to the left behind the white columns, cannon bays to the right, and munition storage to the right on the other side of the wall

Did You Say 8 Irish Coffees? The bartender here at the closeby Buena Vista Cafe is in the process of making 8 Irish coffees. Quite delicious on a cold and wet San Francisco day
