I got the longest day of the year/solstice all wrong and thought it was Saturday. When I woke to the radio alarm this morning, and they were talking about today being the first day of summer, I realized I had been given the governor's pardon, a tremendous reprieve, and ran outside to see the sun splashing on my version of stonehenge as it reached its northernmost point in the sky.Several years ago, I could not budge that black volcanic rock-- left by previous owners of this house -- any further towards the curb, so I dug a hole and tipped part of it into the hole, standing it up. I figured the next owners could do whatever they wanted with it . I got a couple of extra rocks and made a "grouping"

I had gotten 3 extra days of lengthening sunlight without even realizing it. And to top it off, the temperature was in the 70s and was the most incredible gift -- if it could be like this every day of the year, I would never complain.......

I added this picture of the mountains taken this afternoon. You can see how much new snow there is. This morning when I came to work, the snow extended way down into the foothills and would have been quite a pic. But I was late for work (what else is new?), and when I got out at lunchtime to take the picture, the snow had melted away, except at the high altitudes......
