Oh, the computer tower! Gateway made this lemon on a Monday in 2001.
I wasn't much of a computer person, since I didn't use a computer at work. Y2K came along and broadsided the simple Apple program I used for my billing for work. We had a Power Mac and an iMac since the kids used apple computers at school. Apple was in decline and I could no longer find a suitable billing program. PCs? Didn't even know how to turn them off.....I bought 1 for home (this one) and 2 for work. Nothing but trouble. New motherboards, broken hard drives, failing fans -- 2 of those 3 were constantly getting repaired in those first couple of years. This one burned out a couple of years ago, and has been functioning as a stand for my photo printer ever since.....Laptops and ipads have left this in their dust. More and more obsolete (see the wonderful Twilight Zone episode on this very topic). Below: a company offered electronic recycling at the office this week. So I brought in the defunct tower. It joins other no longer loved computer towers, TVs, telephones, CRT monitors, and various and sundry leftovers of another age. Someday, you or I may find ourselves there too....... |
