of of the treasures of our world, just amazing

Bamiyan - Buddhist center from the I st to the VII th century a.c.
More then a 1'000 monks lived there.

This was the way to the caravans.

The area became definitively muslim in the XI th century a.c.

Shar-I-Zohak was considered as a highly secured place which couldn't be taken by force. Unfortunately, the legend says that someone, from the inside, let in the invaders. The people were massacred and the town was distroyed in 1222 by Gengis Khan's son who died in the battle.

The still standing 35 meters tall Buddha has been blown up, since, by the Talibans.
