I have a little theory about why we like to travel to these places so much. Do you want to hear it? Even when we don't realise it, we are visiting our pasts, history. Its a way of fulfilling that fantasy that i, at least, had as a young girl, of experiencing medieval times as a person from the modern world. What surprises me about realising this is that the past, that is to say these undeveloped countries, feel much less strange than i had imagined they would. Maybe its just that i haven't really gotten close enough to that way of life, being protected from it by our sitdown toilets, tourist type restaurants etc. but anyway, it is never quite as bizarre and violent as i imagine it. Rather its more civilised, or what i see of these places anyway.

Thank you for all the pics from Afghanistan. I visited this country in 1975 and I felt very well there. It´s a great country.
