Yes Christine, in Buddhism, the Swastika is the second most important symbol, representing "spiritual truth" and "good fortune". Your shot shows the human side of these very special peoples and what they believe in, and what "they" deem important in their lives. BTW, the most important is the Wheel with eight spokes, representing the eight paths and the centre is Nirvana. - From a friend across the sea

Great picture, I beleive the Buddhist Swastika is different not only in meaning but in form from the Nazi one, as the Nazi one is tiltes at a 45 degree angle. It's still aweful to know a symbol meaning something so positive was indirectly associated to deep seated hatred in Europe. Luckily a level of education ensures people don't miss comprehend this Buddhist symbol

Thank you PollyWog for your explanations. Please feel free to comment on any of my pictures. I am very limited in Buddhism knowledge. Thank you the 12thDude for complementing the subject

the swastika was a significant symbol for the navajo tribe of native americans, too. they called them "whirling logs." it figured prominently in a healing ritual. do you keep a journal, too? you have sampled so much of so many cultures.

I had not idea the swastika came as far as the Navajo tribes. This is so interesting. Other cultures I would love to discover ! Thank you Chipotle for completing my comment. I do appreciate Pattyb, for our stomach yak tea is a kind of broth swimming in rancid butter ! Excellent when you are cold and hungry but in summer ! My liver didn't appreciate the treatment.

This is an incredible picture. Sometimes when a symbol has been so distorted it may take a long time for the visual image to lose the distorted meaning. Explanations, pictures of this sort help that process.

Wonderful photo - such a sense of expectation captured - waiting in vain. Just like the end of your story - no happy ending yet. Well done.
