Kathakali

Indian performing arts employ a range of expressions and gestures to communicate emotions and convey stories.
Rasas, or emotions are very important aspects of dance-dramas such as Kathakali (story-play)
They articulate the sentiment of the character, but also the reason behing that emotion.

The Kerala nine principal emotions or Navarasa form the foundation in classical performing art forms :

Sringaaram = beauty

Haasyam = laughter, fun

Karunam = sorrow, empathy

Raudram = anger, rage

Veeram = valour, self-confidence

Bhayaanakam = ferfulness, alarm

Beebhalsm = revulsion, vulgarity

Adbhutam = wonder, surprise

Shaantam = calmness, stillness

Kathakali is a higly dramatic and mimetic dance form, interpreting the moral values of god and man
