Photography.. a Funny Thing

This is a screencap from a photobooth film shot on my singing dancing day last week.
Low resolution leaves lot's of room for the brain to play around in (Mine anyway). For some reason this image looks to me like it could have been taken 50 years ago (or more). Perhaps it reminds me of Mum, I don't know but I like it. It brings up a pleasant nostalgia and a feeling of old photo albums and happy moments lost in the mists of time trapped between paper and a film of chemicals.

This image doesn't actually exist.
Crikey.

Kiddo told me the other day (while we were having lunch) that I was not an Artist (Miss Brown and Papa are) because none of my stuff is real. It's all virtual. He has a point (?) Answers on a postcard would be nice. A real postcard would be even nicer.

So, That's what my brain chose to do with this image.

My Address for anyone interested in sending a post card which will be (re)posted on here at some point.

leocheung Yes, photography is funny. It's so real yet always so far from real.

DancingDolphin I've decided 'artist' is a title that is not given to you by others, but by yourself. I could put that on a postcard from Palm Springs. The entire town seems to have stopped in time in the 1950's so your nostalgia would be right at home here! :-)

abumdance Yes! Yes yes!!! Properly! Boy is right! Create and put on the earthplane !

AlexandraPechabaden Will you print? It is odd to think it doesn't exist...

yellodog Deep observation, If you have a decent editor it might be fun to shift the temperature of the picture to something a bit warmer to exaggerate the nostalgic feeling.

wfrnk It's funny when it's not sad... ;-)

McMommy being an artist is about creating with whatever medium you choose.... and I like the postcard idea... sounds like a neat PB digital meets reality project :)

????? OK, I missed this originally, now I've seen it I'll send a postcard for the hell of it, but I'll also post my definition of art and artist here.

An artist is someone who creates or performs something, ("a work"), that, (intentionally), causes an emotional response in another who experiences it.

By my definition virtual art is still "art" and so you are an artist. A actor or musician or singer can be an artist and the work they perform is art. A performance artist is an artist but every performance is a transient work. Not all art is an inherently permanent thing.

????? BTW, I've found a pack of postcards my mother bought years ago, shortly after she moved up to London to live with me - it's about time I think they were used.
