sentimental tokyo

2008.06.09

This educational display in a park near my family's home is meant to educate visitors about the original inhabitants of this area. Before all the landfills, the neighborhood was on the edge of the ocean, and several prehistoric piles of shells can be found in the area.

Reassuringly, not every available space is being developed into Mori-sponsored skyscrapers. This area's been allowed to go a bit wild with clover and native plants/weeds.

The Azabu-Juban pet store. In the '80s, we used to buy our fish food (and our fish, come to think of it) here.

5% of my body mass is made of osembei from this shop.

Even firefighting looks kind of cute in Japan.

Osembei.

More osembei.

A two-man team was tearing down an old building in the neighborhood. One man ran the crane, while Mr. Muscles there arranged everything on the truck.

Only the most confident of Tokyo men can wear pink like this. Later little brother went past this site to see Mr. Muscles carefully putting a band aid on Mr. Pink's finger. What an excellent team.

Enough with the deconstruction photos.

This froo froo drink is reason enough all by itself to go to Daikanyama. I think it's a mimosa.

Places from childhood, and the past few years.
