a day in Huairou

2010.10.03

During the October holiday, I traveled with friends to the suburbs for an overnighter. The air was shockingly clean.

Everything looks more crisp in the burbs.

Reflected.

Great Wall.

The water was not totally clean.

This photo is for my mother, who is amused by seeing people squatting in unusual places. This guy perched on that rock for quite a while.

I've seen this in more than one rural village - a sneaky megaphone system, convenient for piping in propaganda or, worse, nationalistic music.

It's chestnut season. Most had already been picked, and there were many husks lying around.

A wall on the Great Wall.

The Wall's watchtowers are always full of trash.

Mortar. They say that rice was used to stick the stones together on the Great Wall. Based on what I struggle I generally find it to be to wash the rice cooker, I reckon sticky rice could easily hold a wall together.
pixel
The little town in which we stayed the night.
pixel
Such clear air. Such blue skies.
pixel
Such was the wildlife. This baby dinosaur made me happy.

Some industri-plex over the other side of the mountain. Not sure what that was.

Fierce exoskeletons protect wimpy chestnuts.

A walk round the corner at night. If you got away from the lights, you could see zillions of stars and the Milky Way.

Creepy rope bridge in the dark.
