2012-04-12 Cobh Titanic100

I took today off!! (In the morning I got a hair cut..I'm TERRIFIED of haircuts so that was a big deal) Then afterwards I met my sister Florence, bro-in-law Danny, and niece Clodagh for our trip to Cobh to take part in the commemoration of the departure of the Titanic from Cobh (Queenstown) one hundred years ago. It was a bit showery but the choir (on the stage behind us) was beautiful. Cobh is such a beautiful place - I love these colourful rows of houses, and the huge Cathedral overlooking Cork Harbour.
We stood together on this pier under our umbrellas and listened while the choir sang a song written especially for the people on board the Titanic. My thoughts with those 2228 people who left Cobh aboard the ship 100 years ago and the 1523 who died when it sank on the 15th of April.
