As we were leaving Scotland behind, we went to see Drumlanrig Castle near the Scottish Borders. It is home of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry and again has 2/3 of the house open for visitors as the current Duke and Duchess reside more in their "first" home than in that castle.

Drumlanrig Castle was completed in 1691 by William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry, and is one of the first and most important Renaissance buildings in the grand manner in Scotland. It has a remarkable art collection which has suffered several burglaries, but all the lost paintings have been recovered.
There is also a full range of activities to attend to while you happen to go there. Their web site gives a good overview of how to spend a day out and about the Queensberry Estate.

Viimasel Šotimaa reisipäeval külastasime Drumnalrig'i lossi. Tegemist on väga heas korras majaga, mis on rajatud 1691 aastal esimese Queensberry krahvi William Douglas'e poolt. Algselt korralikult kindlustatud hoonet ei ole kunagi rünnatud ning 19 sajandi keskpaigas muudeti maja avaramaks ning rohkem pöörati tähelepanu mugavustele, kui kindlustunde tekitamisele. Kuninganna Victoria külastuse eel istutati ka poolekilomeetrine puude allee ning muudeti maja sisekujundust veelgi suursugusemaks. Paraku ei võtnud monarh vaevaks maja külastada.
Maja ning seda ümbritsevad hooned on ehitatud kasutades kohalikult kaevandatavat roosakat liivakivi. Paar korda päevas on ka giidiga majakülastus, mis kestab umbes tunni jagu. Väga huvitav ia omapärane koht. Palju kunsti ning põnevat sisearhitaktuuri.
