Lo Po Pang aka Wife's Cookies/Wife's Cakes

2007.09.16
Brought back by ferry/flight from Hong Kong as a gift ...

The Chinese word “Lo Po” 老婆 means “wife” while “Pang” 饼 means “cake”. Lo Po Pang is known as wife cake or sweetheart cake in English.

Lo Po Pang is made with winter melon,
flour, pig oil and almond paste. It is a pastry filled with
soft winter melon. Its crust is flaky and crispy.

Even though Lo Po Pang can be found everywhere, the most outstanding one is found at the Hang Heung Cake Shop in Yuen Long. It was established in 1920s as Hang Heung Restaurant. Over eight decades, the cake shop has developed its good faith and has become the trademark of Lo Po Pang. The cake shop has expanded its business to Mainland China, Singapore, Europe, North America and Australia.
