Theme Song: Taj Mahal Anthem

2007.11.07
Everybody knows the Taj Mahal and everbody has seen the same pictures of it.

It looks amazing in pictures but seeing the same pictures all of your life cannot possibly do it justice.

When you see the Taj in person, it is breathtaking.

It will stifle you in your tracks and make you just stare at it.

It is the worlds most beautiful building, hands down and a sure fire new 7 wonder of the world.

It is awesome and beautiful. Did you notice the minarets(towers) actually not straight? Each of the minarets were constructed slightly outside of the plinth, so that in the event of collapse, a typical occurrence with many such tall constructions of the period, the material from the towers would tend to fall away from the tomb.

The building is constructed entirely of white marble, and was once set far away from the main city, though suburban encroachment is becoming more noticeable.

It is jaw dropping when you see it in person and it has a lot of history and mystery behind it.

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, India.

The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned it as a mausoleum for his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. He did this out of love. In 1631 Shah Jahan, emperor during the Mughal’s period of greatest prosperity, was griefstricken when his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal, died during the birth of their daughter Gauhara Begum, their fourteenth child. Contemporary court chronicles concerning Shah Jahan’s grief form the basis of the love story traditionally held as the inspiration for the Taj Mahal.

Construction of the Taj Mahal was begun soon after Mumtaz’s death. Construction began in 1632 and was completed in approximately 1648 and the surrounding buildings and garden were finished five years later.

The intricacies of the carvings on the sides of the Taj are very delicate and beautifully done.

Inside, the entire affair is decorated with designs made from precious gems.

Some are flower patterns, others are Islamic script.

In addition, there are 2 mosques on either side of the Taj that are perfectly symetrical to the Taj that add to the mystique of the Taj Mahal.

There are no nearby structures to interfere with the play of light.

two formal gardens flanking a reflecting pool

The Taj Mahal has a beautiful landscape, including a Persian garden that spreads from the main gateway to the beginning of the actual structure.

The garden is laid out in such a way as to maintain perfect symmetry.

The main gateway is made of the scarlet colored sandstone.

The Taj Anthem "One Love - Ek Mohhabat" composed by Indian Music Director - Composer A R Rahman to inspire Indians and all people who love the Taj Mahal, Agra to vote for the Taj in the new 7th wonders.

The New7Wonders of the World, as announced in random order at the Official Declaration Ceremony on 07.07.07, are: The Great Wall of China, Petra, Chichén Itzá , the Statue of Christ Redeemer, the Colosseum, Machu Picchu and the Taj Mahal. More than 100 million votes were cast worldwide. The New 7 Wonders are all equal – there is no rank among the list.
