Now Everyone Can Fly

2007.12.20
this is the tagline of AirAsia, a successful low–cost Malaysian airline and Asia's leading low fare, no frills airline. You can even book a fly as low as RM 0.66 (exclusive of airport tax); definitely have to book months in advance.

Destination: Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. Langkawi is a duty-free island.

In the past, the land was a home to innumerable eagles and the origin of the name Langkawi is a combination of 'Lang' and 'Kawi'; 'Lang' means 'Helang' eagle in Malay.

The giant monument of an eagle which is the symbol of Langkawi is in Kuah (main town).

Jetty Point is a shopping centre and an entry point by sea to Langkawi.

Langkawi Island has recently been re-branded to LANGKAWI GEOPARK to better reflect the island's recognition by UNESCO as a World Geopark (on June 1, 2007). Mt. Machincang Cambrian Geoforest Park is on the north-west of the island.

The Langkawi Cable Car route links the Base Station at Oriental Village to the Peak Station on top of Gunung Mat Cincang at 705m above sea level.

First time trying the vertical panorama (stitch of 3 photos).

A tour operator busy checking the cable car tickets.

The oriental village serves as the entrance to the Langkawi Cable Car; kind of a tourist-oriented small town full of shopping complexes
