Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
2008.01.05
Kota Kinabalu, often simply known as K.K., is situated on the tropical island of Borneo and is the state capital of the Malaysian state Sabah, one of the two states of East Malysia. The central business district (CBD) is located on a narrow strip of land bordered by Signal Hill and the sea. Because of shortage of flat land in the area, most of the CBD today is built on reclaimed land. There is also a height limit imposed on buildings in the CBD because of the close proximity to the airport, being just 7 kilometres away, and further lying directly in the path of aircraft landing and taking-off.

the most famous landmark is the mighty Mount Kinabalu, 4095 metres high, with a green National Park surrounding! Timpohon Gate, the entrance to the summit trail where you will start climbing. 'SELAMAT MENDAKI' (in Malay) means 'Happy Mountaineering'.

Unfortunately, weather is not permitting for a clear view of Mount Kinabalu on my visit this time. (I did a climb to the peak in 1992 and got a certificate for that effort!)
