Calligraphy or Painting?

This scroll was hung in the wall of my parent's home. On closer inspection, there is a Chinese phrase make up by the paintings of birds, flowers and a dragon (can you find it?) - 合家歡樂 - meaning "The entire family is happy".

Chinese characters can be written in the traditional form or the simplified (less stroke) form. The above Chinese phrase is in the traditional form meaning more complexity even in normal writing.
