"Foreigners' Rock"

2008.06.12
Batu Feringgi's is Penang Island's most popular beach destination for tourists and locals.

This long stretch of sandy beach is home to a wide range of resorts, shopping opportunities and water sports.

Batu Feringgi was believed to have been named after the Portuguese word for 'Foreigners' Rock', as the Penang Island was once fought over by many colonial powers including the British, Dutch and Portuguese.

The area has a rich mix of Chinese culture with other races, and most run businesses in the area, a testament to its commercial popularity.
