Wildlife in Auzzie

2008.10.14

Huntsmen Spiders - the only part of Australia Genevieve hates. They are harmless.
This one found by the mill was the third I had seen and was "middle-sized"

later I spotted one slightly bigger than this one but with much fainter markings. Pete coaxed it into the jar with this one, but they were NOT friends - The larger one killed this one so we gave them both to the chickens and they were promptly eaten.

Mt Beckworth - Orange fuzzy caterpillars. They moved kind of like inchworms.

Mt. Beckworth - Quick little lizard, but not quick enough - I caught it then Pete held it for the photo while Genevieve stood and laughed at us.

HUGE ANTS
I was trying to convince these ants to come out of their hole - they were not convinced. My camera batteries ran out after this shot, then a few steps later Genevieve spotted a couple more huge ants on the path, so I borrowed Pete's camera for a photo of them. I have not yet got a copy of those pics.
