In a diverse Mexican, Arab, Central American, South American, and Caribbean neighborhood, the Bell city community has answered the call to action. Middle to lower class families and the working poor have a new found unity in a struggle against the veiled workings of a city government. Hundreds of residents stormed out in protest to support and demand change in the city of Bell. In an effort to promote community awareness, civic participation and social action, Bell high school students have taken a lead in documenting the inequities created by their local government. The following local young artists frame their family and community's experience through the camera lens and written word. Student work will be presented in a local art exhibition where the community will have an opportunity to view and discuss issues in an open forum.

Many of the citizens have realized that corruption can be happening even when everything seems to be in order. Photography has shown all the point of views that people want to know about the case. As a professional photojournalist of 45 years experience I'm glad to see an ambitious "grass roots" student photo project but the color is inexcusably AWFUL, the collection needs editing, and the kids should have gone further afield than just the council chambers.
