In a diverse Mexican, Arab, Central American, South American, Caucasian and Caribbean neighborhood, the Bell city community has answered the call to action. Middle to lower class families and the working poor have a new found unity in a struggle against the veiled workings of a city government. Hundreds of residents stormed out in protest to support and demand change in the city of Bell. In an effort to promote community awareness, civic participation and social action, Bell high school students have taken a lead in documenting the inequities created by their local government. The following local young artists frame their family and community's experience through the camera lens and written word. Student work will be presented in a local art exhibition where the community will have an opportunity to view and discuss issues in an open forum.

monica valenzuela how does this event affect you and your family directly? it afffects our family because my mom is an only parent she does the best to get us what we want she struggles to pay the rent and bills. she works more than 50 hours a week we hardly get to see her she never has times always has to be working and it affects our family because we never get to go out as a family or be together because she's always busy just trying to get by and put food on the table and give us a roof over our head.

after reviewing all images, what is being documented through the photographs?
people and the city state are tired of getting taxed and being in debt all the time.

what course of action or direction do you think the community will take as a result of the city government actions?
they will put a stop to it and make the city state pay them back all there money.
monica valenzuela · 2010-07-27: 15:34
Jose Muente How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?
- As a member of Bell i feel that we have been robbed. Right here in Bell we don't have anything just a skate park and a park and i was wondering where all the taxes that we pay are going to and know i know where they were going to the city council and that is wrong.
How does this event affect you and your family directly?
- This event affects my family because we don't have anywhere to go when we want to go out, we have to go to other cities like Maywood or South Gate and especially Maywood and South Gate because they both have pools and thats something that Bell does not have.
What are some positive effects of the disclosure of city government activities?
- Some positive effects that by disclosing the activities we may have some more things to Bell like a pool, soccer fields, a sports place ect.

Jose Muente · 2010-07-27: 15:43
Karina Ramirez How can the youth participate and /or take a leadership role in reacting to the current issue in the city? The youth can participate by using their artistic skills to portray their feelings towards the high salaries of the Bell city council. Many students participated by documenting and taking shots of the rally but others also used their art to make posters.

From the images what can you say is the perspective of the community? The community is obviously angered at the fact that they are working not only to sustain a good way of living conditions for themselves and their families but for the council members. They are angered by the injustices that their local government has laid upon them.

After reviewing all images, What are some of the most important details and symbols? Describe the people, actions and icons. What do they mean? The most important symbol is unity, the community has recognized how their government has failed them therefore, they came together to protest and stop the members from continuing to misuse the money that comes from the hard working people's salaries.
Karina Ramirez · 2010-07-27: 15:43

What do you think about the new found political mobilization in your city? Was this response to civic duty there before these events? Will this community action and response continue?
No body knew what was going on and they didn't investigate until it hit the media everybody knew what was going on and now there fighting back

????? what are some negative effects of the city government?

The negative effects that the city actions in the city of bell was that the city council was stealing the money from the citizens and was over taxed. Many bell citizens are barely making enough money to pay their rents and taxes and he city council is adding more money to the taxes and stealing the money. The citizens are struggling with money proplems and now the bell citizens have found the truth of the city council stealing money.

After reviewing all images, what is being documented through the photographs?
They're showing the peoples feeling towards the absurd paycheck that these city-consul member are receiving. They think that all their hard earned money goes to their salaries.

How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?
Since I'm not a tax payer i wouldn't know how to feel, i guess my feelings are neutral as of right now. However, judging by my parents reactions to it..our city could have been/be a more presentable city.

mitchel · 2010-07-27: 15:45
giscy ortiz How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?
-there's frustration, anger because us youths, family and people are going threw difficulties has it is with the economy..our parents work to get paid to support their family's
giscy ortiz · 2010-07-27: 15:46
jessica What are some negative effects of the city governments actions?

There are many negative effects of the city governments actions for example, stealing. They basically steal the taxpayers money by just taking it when nobody's watching or anybody even knows about it. It isn't fair for those families who are barely making it and yet they have to pay more so the council could keep the money, when that money could be extra for other needs, instead they just kept it to themselves until now.

How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?
Personally I don't live in the city of Bell, I live in Maywood but knowing that this is happening gets me pretty mad. I don't think that they should be doing this because families need that extra money. The council should be embarrassed for doing such thing especially for trying to hide it for a long time.

From the images what can you say is the perspective of the community?
The perspective of the community is to get the city council members fired. They are really aggravated with what has been going on and they want a stop to it. For example calling the members rats, asking to stop the abuse, and wanting them to resign.
jessica · 2010-07-27: 15:46
Sarai Urbina From the images what can you say is the perspective of the community?
The pictures clearly show that the community is really upset and angry about this whole situation. Who wouldn't be? This community is really hard working and the economy itself isn't good and then the city government taking away the little money that we have for themselves it isn't right! The community wants the city government out because they are taking away our money. The community is uniting all together to make a change, beside the government is " for the people by the people". So the community has its every right to make a change just like John Locke explained the natural rights that the people have the right to change the government if they go against out rights or is in just.

Sarai Urbina · 2010-07-27: 15:47
Ashley Martinez 1) What do you think about the new found political mobilization in your city? Was this response to civic duty there before these events? Will this community action and response continue?

2) How can the youth participate and /or take a leadership role in reacting to the current issue in the city?
-Because now kids are also beign part of this.
3) How does this event affect you and your family directly?

What are some negative effects of the city governments actions?
the government takes away peoples money dat was enough money to make our schools better. another reason is that we could had clean up our streets with that money.

How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?
i feel frustrated because the government charge tax everywhere and some people barely have the money to eat or to buy themselves some cloth.

How can the youth participate and /or take a leadership role in reacting to the current issue in the city?
they can help by cleaning our streets.
Cesar Soto · 2010-07-27: 15:47
Andres Escalante What are some negative effects of the city governments actions?
The government takes away people's tax money.

How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?
frustrating because we have to pay a lot of taxes and it goes to the government. Once we pay our taxes, we would have less money.

What course of action or direction do you think the community will take as a result of the city government actions?

I think that the city will become charter.
Andres Escalante · 2010-07-27: 15:47

Katherine Rodriguez How does this event affect you and your family?

This affects me and my family in many ways. It is wrong for them to steal from their own people. It appalls me to know they fooled us for so many years. They have gotten away with it for so long, its time to do something about it. Us, city of Bell, united should get them withdrawn, we cant do it! This city deserves more, "We pay like rich and live like poor"!
Katherine Rodriguez · 2010-07-27: 15:47
Gissell hernandez How can the youth participate and /or take a leadership role in reacting to the current issue in the city?
-The youth participate in this current issue for the fact that is were they live and i am pretty sure they know whats going and what surrounds them by the other bell residents.
What are some negative effects of the city governments actions?
-Some negative effects on this issue is that were paying taxes and taxes and they keep on coming but were is all that money going to,The activities that are being offered they take place in other places for the fact that we just have veterans park that is not that big and sometimes even bell high school they should at least use that money to build a center for those activities that kids join.
How does this event affect you and your family directly?
-This event affects many people because the money that there paying for taxes can be spent in other payments that they have and are more important than giving it to the mayor and him just sitting there and doing nothing with it but just sitting so finally people speak for themselves.
Gissell hernandez · 2010-07-27: 15:48

#2. What are some positive effects of the disclosure of city government activities?
- That you can't trust no one
#3. How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?

stephanie From the images what can you say is the perspective of the community?
From the imagines i can tell the people are very mad at the council members for taking advantage of the cities trust in them and stealing the cities money.

After reviewing all images, what is being documented through the photographs?
The photographs are saying that the people from bell want there voices to be heard and the want justice.

What are some positive effects of the disclosure of city government activities?
The positive effects of this is that now that we found out we can stop them and put the money to better use for our community.

stephanie · 2010-07-27: 15:49
Ebenezer Rodriguez How can the youth participate and /or take a leadership role in reacting to the current issue in the city?
I believe that the youth is a very important part of the Bell community. They are the future of this city and we need to prepare them in school. As of now the school don't have enough money to provide them with the tools they need to learn and achieve in school. Who needs $800,000 a year to live happy? If a portion of that money went to education in Bell we would have a bright future for the children and teens of Bell. The child holding the poster obviously knows what is going on in his community, he is trying to send a message to the council, to get out and return the money to education and anything the city of Bell needs desperately.

Describe the image. Describe the symbols/icons, emotive details and actions.
In the image of the lady and the man with the speaker they are trying to get their voices heard. I was right next to that lady. She really wants the council to get out of there. many people got to talk in the speaker but she was the one who really got them together so they would be heard. Hopefully we will be heard and the council will be fired. Like she said " Unidos no seremos vencidos!"
Ebenezer Rodriguez · 2010-07-27: 15:49

Monica Lazaro - From the images what can you say is the perspective of the community? The community is outraged about Bell salary. We come from a middle class where everything we own and have possesion of we work hard for. Not to mention we dont remember of the lower class who berly even have money to put food on the table.
- How does this event affect you and your family directly?
i live in a very small city which is Cudahy.i live with my parents,my brother, and sister. My family is very hard working and when i say that i mean my parents. My dad works at a supermarket and pays all the bills. He complained about not having all the money sent in time. We all depend on each other and at this time of anger and dissapointment it makes it hard on us.I don't live in Bell but i don't know maybe this situation in the long run will affect each city in Los Angeles.Just to look at the last Names of these unproffesional people, makes me mad because i think to myself and wonder if they ever think of "their own" and ever tried to make an effort to bring this community together.Instead, they decided to put their heads together and split our money between each other.
Monica Lazaro · 2010-07-27: 15:50
jeanette ochoa From the images what can you say is the perspective of the community?
From the images i can say that the people are very angry, they feel like they need justice for what these council members did.
What are some positive effects of the disclosure of city government activities?
Some positive effects of the disclosure of the city are that the people are going to be more cautious about the people the chose to be council.

-that people are very disappointed that they are taking away money.and soon this may make people get more out of control until they get fair pay.
2)What course of action or direction do you think the community will take as a result of the city government actions?
-i think that they wont take advantage people that live in bell.Try to make the community a little bit better you know put effort in it.

Adrian bojorquez What course of action or direction do you think the community will take as a result of the city government actions?
- i think that we will try to fire both of the police council so that the money can now go to the schools and the community in the areas that need it the most. Every little detail matters, every action and decision matters in making were we live better, make it feel like home.

How does this event affect you and your family directly?
-my family needs to work harder and pay more ss that the y could get paid.
Adrian bojorquez · 2010-07-27: 15:51
Jocelyn Blanco From the images what can you say is the perspective of the community?

The community sees the council people as rats because that's what they are. They are doing what rats do which is take from people and that's exactly what these men and women have been doing. They took from all of us and our parents that work 8 hours a day to get minimum wage and they just sit at a desk, some getting more than 100,000 a year. It is not fair and the people will not rest until justice is made.
Jocelyn Blanco · 2010-07-27: 16:16
Jose Mayorquin From the images what can you say is the perspective of the community? The people of the city of Bell are outraged because they trusted these people to govern their town and this is how they repay. It is obvious that people do not like being scammed but especially by the very people they trusted.
Jose Mayorquin · 2010-07-27: 16:19
Rebecca Alarid What are some negative effects of the city governments actions?
>The negative effects that this has is that they don't do what they say that they will. Many of them just want to better them selves rather then helping the city and our community. Instead of our tax money going back to our community it goes right into the mayor and to the other members pockets.
Rebecca Alarid · 2010-07-27: 16:19
Samantha Fong How does this event affect you and your family directly?
This affects my family in a way that my mom has to work over time everyday because what she gets paid is not enough to pay the rent to pay bills and to pay for food. & it affects me because i see my school & is not a really nice school they should use that tax money to help schools in the city of bell like Bell High in what they need.
Samantha Fong · 2010-07-27: 16:20
Heriberto Cruz How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?
The community is being roughly affected by the 'over' corruption that the City of Bell is experiencing. The City of Bell is run by literally the tax money that we are throwing away to PAY the council even after their lack of responsibility towards the necessities of the united city. As a member of this city i feel the need to march inside the committee with no permission whatsoever and protest against this corruption. The citizens must unite and scream, yell if its necessary but our voice must reach the ears of the city council and help them come to the agreement that they should resign for the best of the city.
Heriberto Cruz · 2010-07-27: 16:21
Jocelyn Blanco How does this event affect you and your family directly?

It affects us directly in the sense that we have to work harder to get money so they can take from us and pay these people. Also the taxes went up again and I am sure it was to pay the council members and that leaves every low income family in Bell with less money to buy what is necessary at home.
Jocelyn Blanco · 2010-07-27: 16:24
Carlos Cardenas How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?
The over exploitation of our community by the city council has led to the unity of all citizens in an attempt to overthrow the corrupted officials of Bell. The news of the corruption of our city officials has led to anger among the taxpayers because their money is being overused for the self-interested purposes of our city council. The citizens of Bell have united and are making a push to end the corruption in our city.
Carlos Cardenas · 2010-07-27: 16:25
nataliiee its so wrong what the council members were doing they fooled the people for so many years they were making enough money to support there family while we did not have enough money to support ours..

it is really frustrating seeing and talking about this, they were stealing from there own people as well as they need money we need money as well our parents have to get up every morning to get money for us, for the family and its not even enough!

Hugo Valencia From the images what can you say is the perspective of the community?
As a result of this incident the community of Bell will now view those in office with caution and fear. Now children will remember the caricatures of Oscar and think that every mayor is the devil in person that wants to rob them of their money. Now the governors of Bell will not have the community's confidence.

Hugo Valencia · 2010-07-27: 16:25
yadira rodriguez What course of action or direction do you think the community will take as a result of the city government actions?
The bell community will keep protesting if its necessary and the community will be more involved in the counsel elections and in mayor elections too.
How can the youth participate and /or take a leadership role in reacting to the current issue in the city?
The youth can participate by asking their parents to go to the counsel meetings and the youth can also go and speak in counsel meeting and give their opinion on city issues like creating more recreational areas for them to go to after school or on the weekends.
yadira rodriguez · 2010-07-27: 16:25
JANET SATURNINO How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?
I'm dissapointed because the sheriff is corrupting the citizens of bell by taking their salaries and because of this many people are struggling through out the situation.
JANET SATURNINO · 2010-07-27: 16:26
Aracely Rodriguez What are some negative effects of the city governments actions? The negative effects are that we are being charged more taxes than any other city. The mayor doesn't even now how hard our families work to win money. The majority of our parents go out to work everyday and come back late at night, they come back tired and the next day they keep on working they don't give up. why? because they want to give us a better future so we could live a better life. But what does the mayor do, he does nothing he doesn't work hard to get his money he takes it from hard working families . He might say, there never going to notice they are my money factory workers he just keeps on getting richer and by doing what ''nothing''. That makes him look like a bad person that only uses others for his own cause he doesn't care for the people he is selfish and a big thief.
Aracely Rodriguez · 2010-07-27: 16:27
????? What course of action or direction do you think the community will take as a result of the city government actions?
I think that the community will be more aware of what is going on in the community of Bell. Also they would vote for a better government and go to meeting that the city would have.
????? · 2010-07-27: 16:28
Daisy Samano What course of action or direction do you think the community will take as a result of the city government actions? The actions that the community will do is protest more until the government etc or whom does something about it. People work so hard so that they could be stealing all the money they make. the community well also want them to get fired. the community will actually be happy if someone takes action of this.
Daisy Samano · 2010-07-27: 16:28
Jose Mayorquin What do you think about the new found political mobilization in your city? Was this response to civic duty there before these events? Will this community action and response continue? What the city council is doing is very wrong and they should be punished but it cant be called theft because they didnt steal the money. The people didnt care enough to vote but now they are acting all angry like if it really bothered them. If it bothered them half as much as it appears then they would have voted to not elect or even less re-elect these people. The community will stop carrying about this after a while, they always do. They will vote for the next elections but then they will get lazy again and stop voting. ????? Its not right that the people that live in the city of Bell are paying lots of tax money for their homes, so that tax money is being pocketed to the Bell city council members. How can they do this to the people that live there. Where is the government when you need him? The main member from the city council of bell is getting paid more than the president of the US. The president runs the US and this guy runs bell and still gets paid more than him. and the houses are not even expensive to compare to others. this has gone too far someone needs to put a end to this

I feel as in they were just thinking of them self's & not about the community. They should pay for what they gave done. Is not fear that they get to be living the good life their living & for us the ones that pay taxes are struggling to make a living everyday.

what i feel as a citizenry result of this picture is outraged because we are being taken advantage of and not knowing it just because this goverment is corrupted doesnt mean the city of bell has to be to....living is hard enough why make harder then it already is money is the one thing keeping us together and corrupted if they want money make them work for it

What course of action or direction do you think the community will take as a result of the city government actions?
knowing what people are capable of doing this could go either peacefully or violent but peace in this city is one thing we dont have right now people are too outraged chances may be is that people will start taking drastic measures too win and will no stop espeacilly with how how not the council is taking us serious they just ignore us tend do it over and over hoping just to leave this alone well these people wont lets just hope it doesnt get to riot!!

jessica simenta The bell Community shouldn't have done this to people betrayed us in a way that some family's don't have the money to support their own family or give them the food they need but giving it to the taxes supporting the bell council its just been money thats been waisted of no need when it could be used for important issues that they need they work hard to earned money they work their sweat of hours and getting home late.I don't live in this city but the point of view me putting myself in it, it just doesn't seem fair.

Gisel Carbajal From the images what can you say is the perspective of the community?
-From the images, you can see that the community is really bothered by what's going on. Everybody is mad and upset about this situation, and they have a reason to be. It is unfair to us and the people, and clearly this is everyone else's opinion as well. You can tell that the people are really taking this in a negative way, which is understanding. Their perspective is that this is wrong and that the community should really change or do something about it. these people also feel like they're being abused.

>This picture symbolizes that they think citizens of bell have so much money where they can taxes us as much as they like. But in reality some family are just about making ends meet. With all this taxes money you can maybe think that they will built another skate park or fixes some of the streets. Make the city look nice. Or even helping out some of the schools that are in bell. Like help them with school buses for field trips or even helping with after school programs.

Gabriela How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?
i think that this is bad because why would the city government do that knowing that all our parents work hard to take care of their kids. and for the government to do that it wrong. that the least they could do is make the community better with the money that they took from our parents taxes. and now the community has the right to change the city government because we people have the right to do that
Gabriela · 2010-07-27: 16:34
Jaun G What are some negative effects of the city governments actions?
There are many negative effects especial to the youth. Parents are out there working hard day and night to support there family so there not there for most of the time. Instead of using all that tax money to build another park or skate park they use it for themselves. We are a community of about 40,000 and about half of that are kids and teens. Where are these kids supposed to go after school. There should be programs set up new parks built so we can have option other than being on the streets or staying home and watching t.v

How does this event affect you and your family directly?
This affects my family's income. Why are my parents paying taxes that go to another persons wallet. My mom works from 3am to 3pm Monday through Friday rain or shine even when she's as sick as a dog. She only makes around 22,000 a year and by paying these high taxes she has less money to support us. That means less money she has to pay the bills and keep a roof over our heads. Recently my mom has been struggling to pay the bills while these city council members are living comfortable lives with no worries, buy ranches in other states remodeling there stores. Its not right that my mom struggles to barley make payment when she works 12 hours a day and these people work less hours than my mom in a nice cold office and steal from the entire community to live the life they want,

After looking at all these pictures you can see that the people of Bell are really concerned about what is going on. The people of Bell won't stop till this conflict is revised, till justice is made.

This corrupt action is affecting every Bell resident, there are people living here that have to work and work to at least put a meal on the table for their family while these council members eat and eat and sleep in huge houses while there's families in Bell that live in a 1 bedroom apt. I haven't lived in Bell long enough to know how the conflict has affect my family but if it were to continue I wouldn't to stay and find out, and that's a way Bell will get affected, by loosing residents and stores. - Taking taxpaying money away from our parents and people that struggle to get money is very unfair and is injustice. That is why in the city of bell people united to protest against the city councils bad regulations. It is good that the people of Bell are protesting to show that they wont stand down and let those unfair city councils take away their hardworking money away just like that!! All the media that is broadcasting all the news about the unfairness of Bell are showing the rest of the people how bad the problem really is, and that is good because it will make other people to try to do something about the injustice.

How does this event affect you and your family directly?

- All the problems occurring in the city of Bell is affecting every taxpayer nearby and especially the hardworking parents. This problem is affecting my parents, family, me , and all the fellow good people in a very bad way. The city council is taking a big chunk of taxpaying money away from our parents, and using it for their own purposes. What they are actually doing is keeping the taxpaying money to themselves, watching the harworking parents suffer for themselves and their children, while they stack up their riches. How unfair is that? It is very unfair to everyone that lives in Bell. The people are going to change things if they keep on protesting against the city council, and with the help of the media they can accomplish that."In Bell we pay like rich, and live as poor. It stops now" that is how we are living and it should stop now, those city councils should get jailed for their corruption towards the people and the city of Bell!

I think that the mobilization is due to the fact that the event affects everyone, because those people were robbing the tax money. The community of Bell is not very involved in politics, but when it involves everyone or is an event that affects everyone, the community rises to protect their rights. The community will probably lose momentum and will return to the way it used to be, but if something else occurs rest assure that the community will unit.

-This affects my family probably because they feel like they work way harder than some people, yet are rewarded less. It is unfair that most of our families work a lot, and get pad so little. We also pay a lot of taxes that might not even be necessary. All the money we pay goes to these people, and it affects us because our families work so hard, to just give their money away. Many families pay more taxes than they earn, and it can affect us by leaving us with no money to support ourselves. For example we might have less food just because the government expects us to give them all our money. It is corrupt and unnecessary for us to give away what we work for, especially for the fact that we had no idea what was going on. Our families were just being taken advantage of.

Youth should stand up for the corruption in the city for liable reasons that will affect their growth around the neighborhood. Teens more importantly have a need to protest due to the situations that are affecting the environment. Schools are experiencing weak points and their is no salvation if the tax money going to the city council is used to pay their over waged salaries. City of Bell has turned into a Plutocracy and youth have the voice to stop the corruption. This affects my family directly because my family has worked hard throughout the course of their lives and as minorities are struggling to get food, clothes and shelter. The city officials enjoy riches because of their tyrannical, inappropriate, and immoral actions. They have stolen the money from all the citizens of Bell and believed that we can fend for ourselves when they themselves have been through similar situations because they are us, they are our people as well and they are exploiting their own. Their narcissistic actions have turned their own people against them. All families should be affected by these actions because most of the people in Bell are in a struggle of their own and actions such as these only worsen their conditions, we pay for our benefits and gains not for the gains of local government officials.

People obviously feel strongly about this and i dont doubt them neglecting council decisions anymore. I think this whole thing just kind of served as an awakening.

Jacklyn Jimenez :) What are some negative effects of the city governments actions?

The negative effects of this whole situation would have to be the anger growing among the people. We work hard and for what? Low compensation. Yet the people making two times that of Obama hardly do any wrk. They're being self-ish!!!

In this photograph, i see many angry people. They are holding up signs and protesting for what they believe in and i think they are doing the right thing. Carlos Abarca After reviewing all images, what is being documented through the photographs?

The pictures are displaying the anger the citizens of Bell have toward their council members. Both young and old are uniting for the same cause and believe those in power should resign. It's unfair that people have to continue paying higher taxes in Bell yet their mayor makes double the amount the president does. It is also unfair how Bell is so poor yet there are people that willingly take advantage of these people by taking so much money.

Ana Alvarado -How do you feel as a member of the citizenry as a result of this issue?
the way i feel about this is that i have a lot of anger against the city council because they steal money from the community, and all the money goes to their pocket. I don't understand how people do does things and don't care about those who win that money working. Their is no explanation why we are barley knowing these abuse. All the community needs a response for all the money that was taken away.

Yesica Landaverde From the images what can you say is the perspective of the community?
-The perspective of the community is definately not going to be good. Their response when finding out that their city council has been taking advantage of their tax money is obiously going to infurious the citizens. Especially when the money is going to somebody rather than the city, when they pay taxes to pay for the services in their community.
Yesica Landaverde · 2010-07-28: 14:55
Graciela Garcia -In the picture were it has a poster quoting" In bell we pay like rich, and live as poor it stops now. Basically a lot of people are struggling to pay rent and try to have food ,shelter. By them doing that is making this city more less wealthy by taking up the money for no reason. A lot of people are not rich most of there money go to them what do they get left almost nothing! So I agree with that poster because it is true a lot of people pay like if they're rich but are really living poorly, just to make a living and not to brake the law..

Jose Real Describe the image. Describe the symbols/icons, emotive details and actions

Well the image of Oscar describes the corruption of his soul as he is represented as the devil that he is for taking money from the community. The kid holding the sign also represents something as it is showing the poor victims who Oscar has stolen the money from, which are the children of bell who have been robbed of their future along with their money. Generally the child is angered by the inhumane antics of the city council as are the rest of bell as they have been hoodwinked by the city's cunning devils like Oscar.

The truth i think that....

What is happening to bell reminds me of my city.
The city of maywood, our city was corrupt and what is happening cause it has happen to maywwod and also our cops were corrupted too. When they get a new council the people should know, Their background, if they have a criminal record and know what they are doing with their money and not wait until something bad goes on. As a young person and later in the future it tells me that should be informed and be sure if they are the right people to council.

Rebecca Sanchez What i feel about what's going on in the city bell and the city council is the worst things that mayors can do. As for me, i don't live in bell. I live in Huntington Park and that has never happened to my city (as far as I know) but if it ever happens, for sure I'm going to complain. Like what Bell residence are doing.
For what's happening is very curupt and wrong. Also i am a Bell High School student photographer and I'm seeing what's going on... Also i found out that we don't have to live in Bell to be affected by it. If you go to the school, for sure your going to be affected because money is being taken away from you. There are a lot of things that the school could improve on with the money they have taken away. So what I think the residence should do is have a resign. They also want them out of office and in prison. Well thats what they were chanting yesterday for them to do.

cherreraart With the photographs that i have taken and hopefully portrayed the on going outrage of my community and people i'm perfectly happy with them just existing. Of course i want them to have a ripple effect on the people that see them for them to feel or at least capture a glimpse of the raw emotion the people felt against their governing council. Initially i was in awe "really?" and somewhat indifferent. Its difficult to remain indifferent when you hear them speak, when you realize all these people speaking who you thought you were different from, that you are related to them. Related in their story or more so i felt related to them because of my blood. We share the same culture with minute details seperating us and it made me feel like they were all my brothers, sister, tia's, and tio's. As connected as i might feel to their collective outrage there were somethings that were off putting about my own community. For one all of this happened because WE weren't involved enough within our community and the fact that we overlooked it opened the doors for them to take advantage of us. Honestly we made it simple for them, we in trusted them with the welfare of our community blindly and because we were blind we got burned. I understand the feeling of betrayal and how it feels to be taken advantage of, but the fact is we allowed it. Only once in the hours i spent listening to people tell their stories did i feel isolated. I attend Bell High School two blocks from where the meetings take place, i'm a senior. At the beginning of this year the first few days i witnessed teachers run around frantically for chairs. Class rooms have reached sizes of 38 and over in some cases. They asked what was going to be done with the excess property taxes that they paid. An official said it was regulation to give it to schools, guess my community's response. They screamed and booed, they wanted the money back in their pocket. If we are really one united community fighting against injustice then why are we ourselves creating another. I understand that they want compensation, but honestly if they had been taking advantage for so long and the community still managed to get threw it then they don't really need the money it would just help ease their lives. I'm all for that, but honestly our school needs it more. It hurts for them not see that we are our community's future. We carry the culture, traditions, and the hope. Hope to prosper for our culture strive to the top, for it to be common to have a latin Doctor, Professor, Architect, Cabinet Member, or even President. Our schools need that funding and it struck deep in me that my people couldn't see past their own betrayed emotions and see the silver lining for their children, for our youth.

Cheesytitties First of all i would like to go ahead and begin by introducing myself, i am Ricardo Valenzuela, i believe that we need these "crooked" city council members to be able to blame all of our failures on as people and citizens of this city. If there are no corrupt mayors in this city after a while we will all realize how much of a sad little city we truly are and the worst part is that we will know the truth, that we are to blame for our own demise.
