A wet morning greets us in Florence. We spend some time getting (enjoyably) lost in the medieval streets before finding our hostel. Good location, very nice proprietor. Proceed to the nearby Galleria dell' Accademia nearby for a tribute to the perfect man in all his marble glory. And all the rest of the art in the galleries, of course. Information overload, and we decide to skip the Galleria degli Uffizi. Through the streets again (1&2) and we're at the piazza Duomo to admire the Duomo e Campanile di Giotto (3-6). A little more wandering past the Piazza della Repubblica (7), through streets lined with ubiquitous vendors hawking souvenirs, a stop for lunch at a respectable little trattoria, and we're at the Palazzo Vecchio (8-9) and the Piazza della Signoria (10) to see, among others, Neptune (11) and a copy of David (12-13). Through the streets again (14), over the Ponte Vecchio (15), along the Fiume Arno (16), and up the hill (17) to the Piazzale Michelangelo for another copy of David (18) and a great view of Florence and its surrounding areas (19). We meet a local man, as proud as they come of his beloved city, and he gives us a tour of the Chiesa di San Miniato al Monte (20), with a detour to the Cimitero delle Porte Sante, where he brings us to the tomb of Carlo Collodi a.k.a. the creator of Pinocchio.
