Schönbrunn Palace and its grounds cover an amazing acreage of land. You'd never think it was just outside a major city like Vienna. Then again, that's the whole point, isn't it, for an emperor to have good access to the capital of his empire. Anyway, it's everything I'd ever imagined a palace to be. I took an audio tour of the palace rooms, and it's beautiful, opulent, historic, etc., etc., etc. Modern too, but that's because it was in use until the early 20th century. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the interior of Buckingham Palace or the Istana Kuala Kangsar resembles Schloß Schönbrunn.
Spring's not entirely here yet, so the trees are still skeletal and the gardens aren't flowering yet. I'll return in 2 months and wow you (and hopefully myself) with shots of the gardens and the park. It's really close by after all, only about a half hour away. Then again, everywhere's a half hour away with the excellent public transport system they have here. (Yes, papa, better than in Singapore.)
