Early in the morning, took a Ryanair shuttle from Vienna to Bratislava, capital of the Slovak Republic. It's about an hour away, and the shuttle is pretty good, as is the airport [1]. Next thing I know (OK the flight actually took 3+ hours) I'm flying into the Irish capital on their very own budget airline [2]!
It was a bit rainy and rather cloudy, but first things first: lunch [3]. Excellent. Although what you see is what Min Dan had. I had fish and chips (ha ha) which was also really good, though! The bar/restaurant was just by the Liffey [4], which divides the city roughly into north and south. Across the river is the (apparently) famous Temple Bar [5-6] - I think Dublin is the pub capital of the world, and by the river we see evidence of that: Guinness, Bailey's and Heineken [7-9].
Back north of the river is O'Connell St [10-13], which used to be Europe's widest thoroughfare (or something). Besides the Dublin Spire [10] and police guards on horseback [12], guess what I saw there? Pulau Pinang [13]!! I think there are quite a lot of Malaysians in Dublin. And the UK as a whole, probably. [14-17] is north of O'Connell St. And of course there were monuments to Irish heroes lining the street - unfortunately I only recognised Parnell and O'Connell.
I was surprised that the shopping in Dublin is pretty good. Mary St/Henry St [18] for normal shoppers, and Grafton St [photo lost!] for the pros. And last but not least, Dublin Doors [20]!
My favorite symbol of Ireland: the Brian Boru harp [see the gold engraving on 16].
