Day in Yalta 2

2009.05.11

A story is told about someone who wanted to see Gehinnom ("Hell") when he died, even though he was going the other way. He was led into a huge banquet hall, with heavily laid tables. He couldn't understand it. "Wait," he was told. Then everyone came in and sat down at the table. Each had a huge fork strapped to his wrist. Try as he might, he couldn't get the food into his mouth, because of the length of the fork. Then he went to his own place in Heaven. He entered a similar long banquet hall, with delicious food piled high on the table. In came the "patrons," each with a long fork attached to his wrist! "What!? The same thing?" "Wait," he was told again. As the inhabitants of the celestial abode sat down to eat, each dipped his fork into something tasty, and with joy, fed the person opposite himself! These huge utensils reminded my son of that story!

The guys playing "sox" -- kicking around a little sand-filled ball -- do they play this all over, or only here?

The kids here are so agile!

Lenin watching kids on the jumping slide, with mountains in the background!

Fun for young and old!

She so reminded me of Mary Poppins!

Stamping our own trolley tickets.

Mountain view on bus station wall. No trains to Yalta, so we needed to go by marshrutka -- van service.

Aside from being a resort area, Crimea is famous for its many vineyards and mountains.

Actually, this was on the way to Yalta.
