It didn't really occur to me till now that my mom didn't get store bought costumes for us when we were little - she sewed them!
Freshman year, I taught myself how to hem an old school pleated skirt and fit an oxford. Sophomore year was lazy with a shortened dress, junior year I modified little boys onesies with a tail and a hood with spikes to look like a dino, and last year I sewed a lined cape for my Sherlock Holmes outfit.
Keeping with tradition, I picked up some red fleece last week and my very first pattern. Spent the day working on the house and whipping up an elmo costume in the city :)
