Graduation 2009

2009.12.07
A promise kept...

I promised the children that if they worked hard during the year, they would have ice cream on the last day of school. They kept theirs, so today was their day!

Wim mowed the lawn (yes, we have a lawn) before the graduation started.

Refuoe helping to unpack all the gifts and prizes. (more gifts were hidden to surprise the kiddies with later)

Tokelo receiving his report for the year, a goody bag filled with 'things' that little children love the most and clothes. Does he look happy or what?

Even though Diketseng started late this year, she was not excluded. She received exactly the same as all the other children. The parents were also present and they cheered the little ones.

In the beginning of this year none of the children could write their alphabet and now they are sounding and writing words.

Tshidiso, one of our star students received his certificate today. He is 4 years old and can read, write and do math with a smile! He worked with the 5 and 6 year old children and had no problem keeping up with them.

It is going to be a pleasure to teach him next year. In my mind's eye I can already see him sitting and reading story books to the younger kids in Day Care.

God has been so good to us during this year. We were blessed with so many books and resources and it added to this wonderful day where we could proudly congratulate every child on what they have achieved during this year!

I know I am not allowed to have any favorites. All of these children have a special place in my heart, but I cannot help to have a little (HUGE) soft spot for Nthabeleng. She is a fragile little girl who listens attentively and does exactly what you say. She turned 3 this year and can already write the alphabet and words and read them back at me. She is an exemplary little girl and it is a pleasure to to work with someone who is always up for a challenge!

Diemo. As you can see for yourselves, they give me immense joy, overflowing most of the time!

Don't let the laughs and smiles fool you, I had a few good cries in between! You get so use to them and I know that next year I will be looking and waiting for them and that their chairs will be filled with new faces. A lot of crying is part of what we do, but luckily we have wonderful and crazy moments where we can just laugh and be silly! I love them to bits and will miss them so very much!!

"Smile Diemo and look into the camera, you graduate only once from Kindergarten!"

Tankiso, the 'big man' receiving his Diploma. He is and will always be a star wherever he goes and it will be interesting to see what he will accomplish next year.

We will definitely follow every child's school career. All of the children leaving us have a very good foundation to do very well in school next year and it was an absolute blessing and pleasure to be a part of it. Tankiso, I miss you already!!

Monaheng. What can I say? I wish that we could have had him for just one more year, but his mom feels that he is more than capable to go to school next year.

Monaheng is a boy who needs a lot of attention and I hope that he will have a loving an caring teacher who would see to his needs. We wish him only the best for next year and will miss that super smile!

Moleboheng. She makes me cry and she makes me laugh. She could do nothing in January, she could not get the letters right, could not count.... and one day she started writing like a machine. Buckets of tears of joy for this little one. You did it Moleboheng and I love you!!! This little girl is so precious, she surprised us all! She received a certificate for making the most progress, and progress she made for sure!!! She can do exactly what the 6 year old children can do. Her granny was so happy and thankful today and I could see that her family are extremely proud of her!!

Meriam receiving a gift for all her effort during this year. She loves the children and we are thankful to have her. She has a natural gift for teaching and together we had a wonderful time teaching the children. This year for me was exciting and challenging and it was good to have someone that I could trust and rely on. I am blessed and my life is full, I am living my dream!

Tankiso and a very proud mama!!

Monaheng with his granny. Itumeleng could not attend the graduation today, because her mother took her to visit family in Johannesburg. It would have been nice to have a group photo of all our graduates.

Diemo with his granny.

Regina and mama.

'Dimples' Matladi, the girl with the most beautiful smile and her mama.

Time for ice cream and more ice cream. I hope that they won't have tummy aches tonight, they had a lot of candy and topped if of with mmm...ice cream!

Diketseng and Tebello having a good time!

This it what life is all about for little ones...having a good time, all the time!!!

"Want some of my ice cream, Ntate Wim?"

Boy talk???

Tumi staying focussed.

Mmm...

Diketseng eats her ice cream like a lady!!!

Gifts, gifts and still more gifts. The children could not believe their luck. Thank you for this generous gift and for enabling us to buy clothes for every child in the Day Care.

This was definitely a day to remember and it made little hearts leap with joy. We would like to thank everyone who helped us to make this day possible. Thank you for helping to change little children's futures and for caring by showing them that they are loved and that their lives have a meaning in this world!

Congratulations to Meriam, she had a precious little girl on the 31st of November and brought her to school today. One day soon, little Matshediso will be learning in this Day Care.
