Well done with the courage to take self-portraits and to ask for critical input! That has nothing to do with age. I am much older than you and I have to force myself every few months to do it. I dislike the experience. Instead of offering criticism, I want you to answer some questions: 1. What makes the "real you" the real you? 2. Do these images show you interests? Your attitude to life? Your hopes? Your dreams? Your disappointments? Your hobbies? The people you love? Hate? 3. Are these pictures the ones you would like a beautiful stranger to see of you? An army recruitment officer? A doctor? The boss of a company with a job to offer? A priest? 4. What is the main emotion, the main effect these pictures generate in others, do you think? Can you take pictures showing the opposite emotion? Are they equally you or someone else? Don't answer me. Take pictures and post them here instead as an answer. But to answer your question in the forum, a self-portrait can be any part of you that you wish to share with others. I look forward to seeing the results.

Revenant has done a better job than I could have done (no surprise there) I also look forward to seeing what you come up with. Self portraits should show people something about what makes you unique. Just being able to take a photo of yourself makes you more brave than most of us. I typically hide behind my camera when taking my photo. You could show us a thing or two, I'm sure. My only advice is not to follow the 'rules' - we do that far too often and it's not always for the best.
